A poem by Nachoem M. Wijnberg

Soft skin

Children have a calming effect.
They have a soft skin.
They sleep on your grave.
They have big eyes.
They look more calmly.
They sleep next to each other.
You give each child a dead animal
to teach it to fall asleep holding onto an animal,
face pressed against face.
When the animal has lost all its hair
you take the animal away from the child and place
at night a living animal beside its curled-up body.
